Amidst a global pandemic; isolated, anxious and juggling many different responsibilities, it became apparent pretty early on that our mental health was going to take a big hit.
After battling postnatal depression, with it being only recently that I’ve firmly found my feet, this was a terrifying new reality to be facing.
My original painting, ‘We Will Meet Again’, was created after seeing Queen Elizabeth ll make her broadcast in April, and I went on to envision my work being displayed on The Lights at Piccadilly Circus, just as Her Majesty’s speech was displayed there.
In a bid to help raise awareness and vital funds for Samaritans, a charity that has helped me greatly during my dark days and throughout my recovery, I began working hard behind the scenes to secure what would become the largest campaign I could dream of: a self portrait, staring back at me full of colour, love and hope up on The Lights in the heart of Londons West End.
I wanted to find a way of sharing my journey with the world, with the lessons I have learned along the way.
Colour is hope.
Self-care is vital.
Kindness, to ourselves and others, is paramount in our quest to live a more fulfilled, positive life.
We are all facing this virus, facing some kind of uncertainty. Feeling alone, or feeling overwhelmed.
This self-portrait is an invitation to check in with yourself, and with others. How are you really feeling?
